History

Tamhnach Foundation Timeline

It is often only when something goes wrong before we realise the gifts of life and the world around us. Often it requires something like a crisis to bring us to a place of reflection; a space where we have no choice but to re-evaluate life.

The idea and spirit of Tamhnach began with a synchronicity. This synchronicity brought 3 people together on an MBA course in Johannesburg; little did they know then how their individual journeys would lead to an extraordinary junction twenty odd years later! Two of the three, Joseph Daly and Ria Wiid married and after 14 years on African soil returned home to Ireland. Somewhere along the way Joe and Ria received a prophecy about a "sacred place where people would go for healing"; a tamhnach or spiritual oasis within a turbulent world. This was completely unexpected for two business consultants who were totally immersed in the world! They often spoke about this vision, but never had the time to do something about it... Only when Joseph was diagnosed with terminal cancer was this prophecy realised. They formed the Tamhnach Foundation with the aim of allowing people to step out of the busyness of everyday life for a time of 'quiet and counsel'.

Meanwhile in South Africa...

Luthando Prinsloo – experienced executive, entrepreneur and business consultant - carried a long-standing vision and calling of a special healing centre. As he nurtured this dream he poured his energy into research, formal therapy study and a traditional African healing apprenticeship. He always knew he wanted to partner his vision with a like-spirited community, and to this end he kept himself open. After Joseph’s death Luthando and Ria’s paths crossed once again, and the Foundation received a valuable partner and Luthando had found his community!

Tamhnach brings together a Celtic spirit of resilience, art and innovation with the vibrancy, diversity and pulse of Africa. These two heritages combine their mysticism, nature wisdom and painful pasts with their respective rich oral traditions, beauty, and desires to seek deeper meaning.

Joseph Daly wanted others to be spared the tragedy of being hauled to the edge before they would make the time to stop and see who they are, to reconnect with themselves and realise their purpose and potential in life. In his passing he left the gift of Tamhnach.

The Tamhnach Foundation has since embraced and welcomed the participation of new like-spirited co-creators.
